On 14 July the Anglesea Community Network hosted a meeting at the community house where Paul Jane, the acting director of strategy, planning and transition from GORCAPA spoke.

Paul presented a video showing the Authorities new brand “Continue the Story”

Here is a link to it the video.

Some points about the new Authorities role and activities.

·         GORCAPA will assume responsibility for all coastal Crown land along the Great Ocean Road and marine waters 3 km from the coast.

·         Their responsibility is for Infrastructure, Planning, Asset Management and Maintenance.

·         Caravan Parks are a current source of funding.  Other sources of funding are pending legislation.

·         GORCAPA is the lead agency for Great Ocean Road visitation policy and planning.  Working towards creating an Eco destination.

·         DELWP is preparing a Strategic Framework plan which when completed will be managed by GORCAPA.  Local government will retain planning function.

·         Development will not occur in inappropriate locations.

·         Resources will be shared with other agencies such as Shire Councils and Barwon water to prevent inefficient duplication.

·         GORCAPA is intending to adopt UN Sustainable Development Goals.

·         Visitor numbers already hit the ceiling at some locations in some seasons. Spreading visitor numbers out across the year will ‘flatten the curve’.

·         The local issue of Demons Bluff will be managed by closing the beach until the imminent cliff fall is no longer a threat.
